It was a big deal that Denny Hamlin dominated at New Hampshire Motor Speedway the way he did. It was a bigger, and more surprising, deal that his No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing team didn’t blow the surefire win opportunity.

That’s the knock on Hamlin and the No. 11 team; they look like champions of the world one day and foolish chumps the next.

The No. 11 team over the course of the last three years has dominated at Richmond, Martinsville and, now, New Hampshire, looking nothing short of unbeatable. In the same span, they have managed to miscalculate fuel, misjudge a basic pit strategy during a caution for rain, have a communications gaffe that could have easily been prevented and failed to fill the gas tank in races they should have won or finished admirably ...
